I didn't even know Godam had a mosquito mode.. even if it desn't really look like a mosquito, haha But that transformation is incredibly cool nonetheless: I love the extra fins on the "tail", I love the 3 drills on the front and I love that GREEN.. such a nice shade.. and the dragon mode has that green tone too Man, if these weren't s expensive I'd buy 3 of them. Darn it ET. This release looks awesome.

Soooo, which one came first, Tekkaman's Pegas or Godam? To me they are pretty much the same design... }D

Tekkaman's Pegas is 1 year older than Godam, right? Wait, let me check.. Yup, Pegas is from 1975, Godam from 1976. Hehe, the "fatty" robots it's a weird design, I admit. You'd think that the Japanese would just make every super robot look the same (proportion-wise), with well-sized arms and legs and strong chests. And keep the more goofy-looking designs just for secondary robots, like Boss Borot or Mechadon. But.. think about it. Sumo. It's their national sport, and thus quite popular in their home country. Sumo wrestlers are fat (they need to be) but they're also praised for it, it's probably a symbol of power, and strength, in sumo. Maybe when the people who made these 2 shows had to come up with a good design for their robots, they thought of sumo champions and decided to make their robots look like them, not with the intent of making them look ridiculous, but strong. Just my theory.

LOL... Sumo wrestlers. I believe that was the original intent behind Boss and his robot, Boss Borot, in Mazinger Z. When Boss Borot first appeared, it was pretty large. I think it was even the same size as Mazinger Z, but wider. Boss Borot was a representation of the Boss human character, so Mazinger Z, Aphrodite, and Boss Borot had the same proportions as Koji Kabuto, Sayaka, and Boss. Somewhere along the lines, Boss Borot's proportions and size got changed to a robot even shorter than Aphrodite. I guess to make it a lot more like the comedy sidekick of the series. Kotetsu Jeeg had a similar comedy sidekick, and I there were a couple more as well. I just can't remember. I think the only Super Robot anime without a comedy sidekick was the Getters. But back to these odd-looking shaped Super Robots, I agree. Probably Sumo had a lot to do with their designs. Not my cup of tea, but at least they were original. }D

Yeah, Mechadon and Mechadon 2, hehe. I'm watching the old Jeeg show right now. Now, the Getter Robo show, that's an interesting case. We could say that Musashi behave seriously only half the time, thus making Getter 3 the "comedic relief" robot in certain moments. But Benkei has always been more mature than Musashi, so the Getter Robo G cartoon does indeed lack a comedy sidekick. True.
