Well, Gunbuster one is my least liked robots, if not the least liked... yet, I bought the original upon release, and also pre-ordered the new repaint version. So, there you go. }D

Well, it is a nice SOC. The transformation is a little tricky, not very smooth. The stand is pretty awesome and functional in both combined and uncombined modes. With that said, I've heard General Frankie is a nice SOC as well, but that doesn't mean I want one. }D

If you have the extra cash, buy it. If you end up not liking it, you can always sell it.
For me, I have both SOCs (original & recent repaint) and SRC versions.

between General Franky vs. Gunbuster I would say the following:
General Franky is one of those ridiculously well engineered pieces you'll find in the least likely gokin piece one would think about looking. It's sturdy and you can manhandle the toy and not feel odd playing with it... plus the mechanics behind the free rolling threads is just ingenious and i just wish more companies would take note on how Bandai did it with other potential bots in the future when it comes rotatable threads. Posing this guy is a lot of fun minus some minor balancing issues... it feels like you're playing with a mechanical gorilla in your hands is probably the best way to describe General Franky. Big shoulders, giant arms and hands, stout legs and feet ... is probably why the reference to gorilla... There's a lot of clicky joints everywhere so hence the satisfaction with playing with this guy...
Gunbuster has a lot of neat little gimmicks and features some of bandai's earlier best works on how to connect to rather complex space ships to form a giant bot. There's a bit of fiddling you'll have to do to transform it... and once transformed into robot form for most of time you'll probably leave as a bot than take the time and pain to convert it back into the two star ships it once was. There's a lot of cool things about it but just as equally noticeable limitations on this figure. Yeah you can play with this guy but not as much fun as say General Franky. But there's a lot of cool details you'll find on this in reference to the original anime material source.
Both toys are heafty in weight so you'll feel you the gokin love behind either one, whichever you do decide to go with. I like them both for different reasons, and while I wasn't planning on getting General Franky at first, I ended up getting him based on the positive reviews on the figure and I wasn't disappointed.
Hope this helps Baron
