An Oldie but a Goodie ? (SG01 Tetsujin 28 DX)

Ok first let me start off by saying I don't really understand why a lot folks seems to think of this guy as the holy grail of robot collecting.  I just don't quite get it.  I understand the cool factor in terms of him being innovative as a toy for its time, but I just don't get the same feeling that I get when I look at a Voltes V Dx Popy toy set or a clover dx gundam gattai toy set or a Dairugger Dx set.  I'm sure I'll get some intersting response to this comment about the toy, but I just don't get it I suppose.   

Yes, it has presence and the firing fist and missile gimmick that is a must for bots of its era.  I also know that the recent DX mazinger and great mazinger all took its removable armor homage from this guy.  Still I just think there are or other cooler DX bots that are more grails to me than this guy.  

I only had enough time to take a few quick shots... not best camera work with the phone.  If nothing else maybe this can start up an interesting topic about everyone's personal holy grails and why.









Btw, when I first got this guy, the elevator gimmick had failed to work.  Luckily I was able to find me some replacement parts on Ebay and it is now fixed.

Back in the day this was the super duper awesome toy that any boy with warm blood flowing thru their veins would want. I still remember with regret how I missed the opportunity to get one as a little child. When I saw it at the store's window display, my jaw dropped, and for the first time in my life I begged my mother to buy it for me. She didn't have the money at the time, but she promised me to buy it at the end of the month. I recall that during all that excitement, I forgot to do one homework assignment. This was the first time in my life that I forgot to do my homework, but it was enough to receive a punishment. And the punishment was not to get this Tetsujin 28. It was a hard lesson on responsibility, which I still remember to this day.

As for holy grail, the toy is not that hard to acquire. But it is very difficult to find a complete and mint sample at a reasonable price.

20 years ago I had an opportunity to buy such sample along with other complete and mint Godaikin toys for $750, but the seller sold his collection to another buyer under my nose.

And to this day, I still do not have it.
