Here is a bittersweet review of the World Scope Kotetsu Jeeg (31cm) Action Figure I just received a few days ago.
The figure looks fantastic! First thing that grabbed my attention was the box. It is not a fancy cardboard box, nope. It FREAKING metal! Yes, it is a nice retro style Tin container!
Inside there are two plastic trays, one for the Jeeg plus small accessories, and one for the gigantic Mach Drills and Bazzoka!
Here is were things start to go south...
If you look at the picture that has the two trays side by side, you'll see that the two Mack Drills have stickers on them. The stickers state that turning the drills by hand will damage the motor mechanism. Hmmm... I do see a button on each drill, but where is the battery compartment? How about an instruction sheet at least? Nothing! Oh, and the stickers they used DO NOT peel off easily. No sir, they are the kind that rip the surface of the sticker off and leave you with an almost impossible to remove sticker/glue stuck to the drills! Fortunately, the drills are molded in plastic (no paint) and I ws able to remove that stupid residue with 91% Alcohol and lots of elbow grease.
Anyway...
The figure is 99% plastic, but its feet are die cast. Magnets are used to attach the head (neck), the forearms at the elbow, the hands at the wrists, and the Mach Drills and Bazzoka. Now, the elbow joints are sort of a hybrid mechanical/magnetic connection style. The only true magnectic connections (steel ball in magnetic socket) are located in the neck and the wrists. All other joints may appear to be magnetic ball style, but they are regular joints.
The figure has a sliding panel system on the front of the thighs and lower legs, which does a great job increasing the range on motion of the legs. Jeeg can achieve a lot of hard to do action poses because of that design.
The shoulders don't have any sliding panels, but they do sport extending shoulder joints that allow Jeeg to easily pose its arms stright across its chest. That is... if they were not broken and fall out when I tried to do so!
Man! Too good to be true! Price was great, shipping was fast, and box and figure looked amazing! I wonder what sort of SUPER CHEAP PLASTIC they chose to use for such an important joint... damn!
So, in closing, The figure looks great, it has an awesome sculpt and size, accessories are nice, and the Tin box rules. I just wish it had an instruction sheet and that the figure would not be broken upon arrival.
