Yesterday I received the long awaited KO CR02 38CM Mazinger Z Action Figure.
This figure is most likely unlicensed, but it's not really a KO as there is no other figure like it on the market.
Sure, it look a lot like the King Arts Mazinger Z, but it's not really the same. First off, the CR02 Mazinger Z stands at a whooping 38cm tall, far bigger than the King Arts version. Also, while both figures sport a totally unnecessary amount of details in their armor, they are actually quite different from each other.
Just like the Bandai Mazinger Z DX and the King Arts Mazinger Z, most of the armor pieces attach via strong magnets. Being unlicensed thou, this figure is not quite up to par with the other two I mentioned before. Some armor pieces have magnets in them, but no corresponding magnets on the actual frame to keep them in place. The Bicep armor plates are the worst offenders, as the just fall off with the slightest touch or movement.
The figure comes without instructions, and without batteries, which you just have to figure out what type and how many you need. I settled for LR41 batteries, three for the body, three for the Scrander, and two for the severed Doublas head.
The battery compartments are quite wider than the LR41 batteries, but I tried to fit LR43, and LR44 batteries and they would just not go in. Word of advise, to save yourself from agonizing frustration while you're trying to insert the batteries with them just going everywhere, get some 3M electrical tape and wrap the batteries together as one piece. They will go in much easier!
The Scrander comes in as seven parts; Scrander body, two wings, top wing, antenna, and two halves of the Scrander Belt. Very simple to put together, no instructions needed. Of course, the Scrander that came with my figure had the wing attachments inverted, and the wings would not fit correctly. Soooo, I had to disassemble the Scrander Engine Pods to fix them - which by the way, their armor plates comes off too, but it's hell to remove them.
Even with all these issues, the figure looks great and for the $175 shipped I paid, I recommend it.
